Phase Four

I believe that the most difficult part of this tram system is East Bristol. Previous rail tracks have been removed and turned into cycle paths and most of this side of Bristol is densely populated with narrow roads, even the main roads. I think two lines are needed here, an East Bristol Loop and another shorter line through Redfield up to Kingswood, which would be incorporated into another line, connecting at the new Metro Terminal, which follows the Bath Road (Yellow Line) but stays on Wells Road, through to Whitchurch and Maes Knoll.

Lime Line

The lime line, or East Bristol Loop, is designed to connect the most easterly parts of Bristol onto the Metro system, by creating a loop that starts and ends at the new Metro Terminal at Temple Meads.

New Stations (not including any stations added in previous phases) – Lodge Causeway, Straits Parade, Fishponds, Downend, Blackhorse, Science Park Emersons Green, Emersons Green, Lyde Green, New Cheltenham, Warmley, Longwell Green, Brislington Park and Ride, Eagle Road, Arnos Court, and The Three Lamps Junction.

The Route – Leave the new Metro Terminal north onto Temple Way, onto the M32 (Red Line), leaving the M32 at Eastville Park, turning right onto Muller Road, continuing onto Fishponds Road, continuing along Fishponds Road and turning left into Downend Road. From Downend, turn right into Westerleigh Road, following this road until the Science Park. Continue south on the Ring Road and turn right onto Bath Road. Continue on Bath Road, all the way into Bristol and the new Metro Terminal.

This route incorporates the Red Line, minimising disruption. It will incorporate new tram lines on all roads, except the M32 and the ring Road, where dedicated lanes will be built.

Purple Line

This line will run from Kingswood in East Bristol to Whitchurch in the south of the city, via the new Metro Terminal at Temple Meads.

New Stations (not including any stations added in previous phases) Kingswood, Two Mile Hill, Bell Hill Road, Redfield, Old Market, Knowle, New Fosseway Road and Whitchurch.

The Route – From Kingswood High Street, head west along A420, through St George, Redfield, and Lawrence Hill to Old Market, turn left onto Temple Way and into the new Metro Terminal. Exit the terminal and continue onto Bath Road, turning right at the Three Lamps junction. Continue on the Wells Road to Whitchurch.

This route will incorporate part of the yellow line through Knowle and the main through way line in Temple Way.

New tram lines would be fitted on all of the roads, allowing other traffic to use the roads and to minimise disruption and allowing traffic to use the roads at the same time.
